Application FAQ
- Can I apply for more than one open position at one time? Yes as long as you are qualified
- What are some of the general duties I would be responsible for at ResNet? ResNet is a help desk that assists students with their connection to the residential network; EKU wireless; the Combs 230 Student Technology Lab; and the computer clusters in the lobby of the residence halls. We also help some faculty and staff. Everyone we hire is responsible for assisting in each area from time to time so good customer service skills (in person and telephone) are a must, as well as, the ability to move around campus from time-to-time to work on issues in the residence halls.
- Do I need to submit a separate application for each position that I would like to apply for? Yes, a separate application needs to be submitted for each individual position for which you wish to apply
- Will my references be checked? Yes we check references. Don't use family or friends as references.
- Can I submit an attached file of my resume? Yes and we encourage that!
- Do I need to answer all of the questions on the application? Some questions are mandatory and must be answered. It is very important that you provide complete information to help us in our decision to interview.
- What happens to my application once I have applied? If you have applied for a job your application will be reviewed by the ResNet Coordinator who will make all decisions about interviews.
- Once I submit my application, can I contact ResNet? Once your application is submitted you may email us [resnet@eku.edu] to check to be sure we have it. All dates in the hiring process are available HERE. If you are not chosen for an interview your application is kept on file.
- Do you have a management training program? We don't hire people directly into a student manager program. However, all 1+ year people who demonstrate leadership skills may be asked to join that group.
- What are all your employee recognition programs? We appreciate and recognize employees in various ways at ResNet. Our culture fosters group effort and a positive environment. There are celebrations where everyone benefits. We also have team and staff awards each spring semester during our staff retreat.
- What makes working at ResNet different fromworking for other departments on campus or off-campus? First, we're centrally located on campus so it's easy to get to work without a parking hassel. Second, it is a great place to work, especially if you like to have fun and feel like you are an integral part of something more than just a "student worker job."
- Will I have to work weekends? Probably 2 or 3 per semester at the most, not including beginning of the semester training and RUSH. Every effort is made to work around your personal life and its commitments.
- What is your dress code? All team members must wear an assigned nametag to help identify them to our customers. We also understand everyone is a student, however, tasteful, casual attire is permitted. Not permitted: Clothing that is ripped or torn, cut-offs, flannel shorts, workout clothes, dangling jewelry, clothing that contains vulgar or offensive images or text, or off-the-shoulder tops, tank tops, and halter tops.
- Will I have to work over time? Just during the first two weeks of the fall and spring semesters. This is mandatory for all staff.
- Who should I ask for a recommendation? It is a good idea to ask someone who can assess your technical abilities for the position you are applying for. Current ResNet staff, instructors, previous supervisors are some examples. Please do not use your parents or guardians, significan others, friends, etc.
